Amateur Photographer [11th September 2004]
A portfolio of three of my images were published in the Readers Portfolio section of Amateur Photographer magazine, in the 11th September 2004 issue.

The first of the images, that of a Leopard, had previously been published in the magazine in the Maloney column (see below).  Both the Leopard and Puma shots were taken at the privately owned Santago Rare Leopard Project, in Hertforshire.  The Tawny Eagle was taken at the Hawk Conservancy, near Andover.

Some editions of this magazine suffered slightly from an orange/brown colour-cast.  To view the photographs without the cast, click here.

"Chris Windram of Hampshire informs me that he has finally plucked up the courage to send me some of his efforts after several months of pondering.  He needn't have delayed - his pictures are superb and very well presented to boot.

They all show wildlife subjects, shot at a private big cat sanctuary with his Canon EOS 10D.  It's his first digital camera and he points out that he hasn't altered the images digitally in any way.  'When not absorbed with the beauty of the animals, I tried to think a lot about the composition', he says.

I particularly like this image. You'd never guess it had been shot through a cage. Chris used a 75-300mm lens at the 300mm end and settings of 1/200sec at f/5.6 at ISO 200.  Chris's framing keeps the head in the bottom left of the frame.  Magazine and book designers would love it as it leaves spare for text.  The low light level has accentuated this beautiful beast's stare and brought its eyes alive."
