beanbag support

A beanbag is an ideal companion on photographic trips - especially where there is not enough room for a tripod or a monopod is inappropriate.

This page details a beanbag design conceived by my mother, Joy.  This design provides benefits over many commercially available bags and is much cheaper!

With commercially available beanbags weighing in at £30+, and most not actually being that useful, I set about designing my own.  The creative and sewing skills of my mother, Joy, took the idea further and turned it into a useable product.

The finished bag is shown below:

  1. Folding bag arm.  Can either lay flat, can fold completely back on itself, or any angle in between.
  2. The main bag body upon which the camera sits (futher support can be provided by folding back the side arm(s) [1]
  3. Hooks for holding the packing strap [5] onto the bag.
  4. Hooks for fixing the beanbag to a photographic bag, such as a LowePro.
  5. Packing strap. Velcro fixing strap to keep the bag compacted when not in use for ease of storage/carriage.

The bag is extemely versitile, and is designed with Velcro pockets so that the filling can be removed for travel or replaced with a different type of filling.

The beanbag has been on a number of photographic outings with me and has proven extremely valuable.  Its ability to mould to different shapes is of enormous benefit and is far more flexible than most of the commercially available bags I have seen.
