In mid-September 2004 I returned to the Masai Mara in Kenya to witness "the Great Migration".
Early-mid September is the time of year that the Wildebeest, Zebra and other animals migrating from the Serengeti generally reach the Mara river in Kenya. Crossing the river to reach the lusious grass in the heart of the 'Mara is essential, and can result in some amazing sights.
Although the afternoon weather during my trip was a little on the damp side, the mornings were generally good and produced some very good light for photography.
Whilst in the 'Mara I was fortunate enough to witness several river crossings. With an estimated 2 million Wildebeest on the plains at the time I was there, there were animals almost as far as the eye could see!
Other sightings included Lions and Cheetahs "on-the-kill", zebra, giraffe, bat eared foxes, ostrich, elephant, rhino, gazelle (Thompson's and Grant's), crocodile, jackal, and many many more - over 35 different animals in total, not including the dozens of different species of bird spotted.
